Welcome to the home in the clouds of Bruce Busch. Bruce is a Square Dance Caller, calling Advanced and Challenge level dances. Pilot Squares is his home club. We hope you enjoy your visit. I started calling in 1967 in Wisconsin, progressing into calling challenge before moving to Maryland in 1976 (with a job change). While in Maryland for one and a half years, we progressed to dancing Challenge Level 4 and my calling to Challenge Level 3. We then moved again to New Jersey in 1977. There my calling career blossomed with clubs at Advanced, Challenge 1, 2, 3. We successfully grew them until in 1992 our Advanced Club was dancing about 35 squares every Tuesday evening. Through individuals purchasing and using my teaching tapes at those levels, my reputation spread across the USA and my traveling with square dance calling reached 25 states. In that time frame I called at 20 successive National Convention and helped to initiate the American Advanced and Challenge Convention in Ohio. In 1992 my throat decided it was time for me to retire from calling mainly because of calling about 10 dances a week. We dropped out of the activity completely. In 2016 we moved to Florida and started dancing Advanced with caller Ron Libby near Ocala, Florida. We then started proceeding to reclaim our dancing expertise and successfully returned to C-3A. Then Covid hit and that group stopped dancing. And my wife Bonnie passed away. New partner Jean Aegler and I continued Advanced level, and with me dancing thru C2 with Ron Libby’s group after Covid restrictions were lifted. Ron Libby then passed away and Bobby Keefe took over. Shortly after Bobby’s health deteriorated and he retired from calling. Dancers knowing my past history asked me to return to calling so that they would not lose the ability to have Challenge Level dancing in the area. That is why I am back calling after a 32 year hiatus. I am a member of the Florida State Callers Association as well as Callerlab (adding to my 25 year certificate earned in 1992). I am having a ball once again being able to tell people where to go. I have called at the Florida State Convention as well as at the National Convention in Shreveport, LA. I hope to let people traveling to our area know that there is a place to dance Advanced and Challenge in central Florida. |
